Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Jamie Wise is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Periscope Capital, a Toronto-based multi-strategy alternative asset management firm. Since co-founding the firm in 2009, he has overseen its strategic development and investment philosophy. Mr. Wise began his career at Citigroup, where he assumed increasing responsibility, ultimately managing the firm’s Canadian equity derivatives trading business. He then joined BMO Capital Markets as a Managing Director, leading a proprietary trading group specializing in cross-asset arbitrage. Following his time at BMO, Mr. Wise served as Managing Director at Moore Capital Advisors Canada, a multi-strategy fund focused on Canadian markets.
Mr. Wise holds an Honors Business Administration degree from the Ivey School of Business at Western University, where he graduated first in his class, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
Co-Founder & Chief Investment Officer
Stephen Elgee is the co-founder and Chief Investment Officer at Periscope Capital, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the firm’s investment and trading activities. Mr. Elgee previously spent 20 years at BMO Capital Markets, where he served as Executive Managing Director of BMO’s Equity Derivatives department. During his time at BMO, Mr. Elgee was exposed to all aspects of the equity derivatives business including proprietary trading, sales, marketing, origination and structuring while overseeing the firm’s Canadian index arbitrage and North American equity options businesses.
Mr. Elgee is a past Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation (CDCC) and of the Toronto Futures Exchange. He is also a past member of CDCC’s Risk Management Advisory Committee, the Bourse de Montreal Inc.’s Board of Directors, the Ontario Securities Commission Commodity Futures Advisory Board, the Ontario government appointed Commodity Futures Act Review Committee and the S&P/TSX Index Advisory Panel. Mr. Elgee graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics and Computer Science degree and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
Chief Operating Officer
Mike Galbraith joined Periscope Capital in 2011 and is responsible for overseeing all operations and technology related matters at the firm. As part of his duties, Mr. Galbraith oversees all fund operations activities, manages the operations and development teams, and plays a lead role in advancing Periscope’s technological capabilities. Mr. Galbraith is also actively involved in the firm’s financial and regulatory reporting, provides oversight of the fund valuation process, and works closely with the investment team to provide analysis and reporting. Prior to joining Periscope, Mr. Galbraith worked with the Prime Brokerage Group at Scotia Capital.
Mr. Galbraith earned an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (Distinction) from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a CFA charterholder. Mr. Galbraith has completed the Canadian Securities Course and Trader Training Course.
Chief Risk Officer
Louise Pitt Brindle joined Periscope in 2024 as the Chief Risk Officer, is the Chair of the Risk Committee, and reports directly to the CEO. Ms. Brindle brings over 25 years of experience in fixed income and equity markets and has a demonstrated track record of differentiated content generation, thought leadership and superior client relationship development and management to her role at Periscope. Ms. Brindle spent 17 years at Goldman Sachs in London and New York, where she was a Managing Director since 2005 in the Global Investment Research and Securities divisions. After 15 years in New York with GS, Ms. Brindle and her family decided to move to Canada where she became Principal and Head of Credit Research at RPIA as well as a member of the firm’s Executive, Investment and Risk Committees.
Ms. Brindle believes strongly in diversity, inclusion, belonging, mentorship and recruiting initiatives within the finance sector and is committed to paying it forward. She is an Independent Director of the Invesco Canada Funds Advisory Board and serves on the Fund Independent Review Committee (IRC) as well as an Independent Trustee of the MA Specialty Credit Income Fund in the US. In addition, Ms. Brindle is a member of the Sub-Committee of the Finance and Audit Committee of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and recently completed the GCB Sustainability and ESG Designation from Competent Boards.
General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer
Lisa Shostack is responsible for overseeing all legal and compliance functions at Periscope Capital. Prior to joining Periscope Capital, Ms. Shostack held roles as general counsel and chief compliance officer at Turtle Creek Asset Management Inc., an investment management firm focussed on investing in the public equity markets, and The Carlyle Group’s subsidiary, Diversified Global Asset Management Corporation, a fund-of-funds and hedge fund asset manager, where she managed the legal and compliance group and was part of the firm’s Operating Committee. From 2006 to 2008, Ms. Shostack was Vice President, Legal at Dominion Bond Rating Service where she focussed on traditional asset securitization. Ms. Shostack previously practiced corporate law with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP from 1999 through 2006, with an emphasis on financial services, securitizations and private M&A.
Ms. Shostack received her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Western University.
Chief Financial Officer
Grace Lim is responsible for overseeing all financial functions at Periscope Capital. Ms. Lim spent over sixteen years as a senior manager in the financial services industry practice at Ernst & Young LLP, providing audit and advisory services to financial services clients including banks, trust companies, insurance companies, pension funds and mutual funds. Prior to joining Periscope in 2012, Ms. Lim was with Mapleridge Capital Corporation, a quantitative systematic alternative investment manager, where she was responsible for external and internal financial reporting including financial statements, regulatory compliance and tax filings.
Ms. Lim is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant (Top 10 Finalist in Ontario) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.
Director of Technology & Engineering
Mikhail Lebedzeu joined Periscope Capital in 2015 and is responsible for leading technology and software initiatives at the firm. Mr. Lebedzeu is actively involved in all aspects of the software development process and plays a lead role in the design and implementation of Periscope’s proprietary software applications. In addition, Mr. Lebedzeu is responsible for architecting and managing the firm’s cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
Mr. Lebedzeu graduated from Western University with an Honours Specialization in Computer Science and continuously seeks opportunities for professional development, staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation within the firm.
Lead Portfolio Manager
Stephen Church is the Lead Portfolio Manager at Periscope Capital where he oversees the investment team to effectively implement Periscope’s range of investment strategies. Prior to joining Periscope Mr. Church spent over twenty years at BMO Capital Markets working within debt and equity capital markets, proprietary trading, and serving as a Managing Director overseeing BMO’s Canadian convertible debenture and preferred share trading businesses. Prior to that, Mr. Church ran an internal proprietary trading business focused on capital structure and convertible bond arbitrage in the US market. Mr. Church began his career with BMO in investment banking working with both equity and debt capital markets groups on structuring and issuing various security types including corporate bonds, convertible bonds, preferred shares, income trusts and closed-end funds, amongst others. Mr. Church has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) from Queen’s University and a Masters in Finance (graduated with Distinction) from London Business School.
Portfolio Manager
Mike Wang joined Periscope Capital in 2011 and serves as a Portfolio Manager, leading several key initiatives. He is currently responsible for managing the Equity Capital Markets portfolios and spearheading the development of Periscope’s quantitative strategies. With deep expertise in Convertible Debentures, Mr. Wang has applied his skills across various asset classes throughout his time at the firm. Prior to his role at Periscope, Mr. Wang held positions in TD Securities’ Alternative Execution Group and in Prime Brokerage at BMO Capital Markets, where he honed his expertise in market execution and trade facilitation.
Mr. Wang holds a joint Honours Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder, having also completed the Canadian Securities Course and Trader Training Course.
Associate Portfolio Manager
Christine McNerney joined Periscope Capital in 2012 and is an Associate Portfolio Manager specializing in SPAC and ECM strategies. Ms. McNerney also leads credit analysis for the firm’s convertible debenture holdings. Previously, she worked as a Senior Credit Analyst with Manulife Financial’s Canadian Public Fixed Income group and as a Rotational Analyst within the Manulife Investment Division Rotation Program.
Ms. McNerney holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Distinction) from McGill University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. She has completed the Fixed Income Trading and Sales course, the Trader Training Course, and earned certifications as a Responsible Investment Specialist from the Responsible Investment Association and as a Certified Sustainable Investment Professional from Concordia University. In addition to her role at Periscope, Ms. McNerney serves on the board of Impact Zero, a circular economy non-profit, and is a member of the investment advisory committee for the Abiona Centre for Infant and Early Mental Health, which supports pregnant and parenting adolescents.
Associate Portfolio Manager
Robert Visca is an Associate Portfolio Manager at Periscope Capital, where he is actively involved in several of the firm’s key strategies, including SPAC arbitrage, Convertible Debentures, Preferred Shares, and Warrant Arbitrage. He plays a central role in the trading and execution of these strategies, applying his deep understanding of market dynamics to enhance their implementation. Prior to joining Periscope, Mr. Visca worked in the Private Equity group at Fengate Asset Management, where he was involved in deal execution and investment oversight, experience that now informs his approach to complex trading environments.
Mr. Visca holds a degree in Finance and Entrepreneurship from the Ted Rogers School of Management and has earned the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation.
Research Associate
Tommy Giblin joined Periscope Capital in 2023 and plays a key role in the research and development of proprietary models that support the firm’s strategy development initiatives. His expertise in quantitative analysis is integral to these efforts, drawing on his strong academic background and analytical skills. Prior to joining Periscope full-time, Mr. Giblin interned as an Investment Analyst in 2022, focusing on the SPAC investment strategy.
Mr. Giblin holds a Master’s degree in Quantitative Finance and an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics (Distinction) from the University of Waterloo. His thesis research explored the relationship between social media sentiment, stock price movements, and option-implied volatility. Mr. Giblin is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
